What's my State Registered Business Name?

  • This is the business name you provided to the state when you registered for your sales tax license.
  • It should be listed on your sales tax registration paperwork, as well as in your New Jersey Department of Taxation account.

What's my NJ State Taxpayer ID?

  • This is the 12-digit state certificate number you received from the state when you registered for your sales tax license.

What's my NJ Login Type?

  • New Jersey has two website options to submit and pay your sales tax returns. You may use either of these sites for AutoFile:
    • NJ Department of Taxation - To use this site for AutoFile, you will need your:
      • 12 digit state certificate number that you received from the state when you registered for your sales tax license. 
      • 4-digit PIN According to the state, this PIN will be printed on the Welcome letter you receive after registering. 
    • NJ Premier Business Services (PBS) - To use this site for AutoFile, you will need:
      • Your myNewJersey Login ID and Password used to access your PBS account
      • Important: Make sure that your business has been successfully added to your account, so that there are tax returns available to file. (see below)

What's my State Assigned Payment Schedule?

  • This is the filing frequency assigned to you by the New Jersey Division of Taxation.
  • New Jersey offers a quarterly return schedule, and a monthly with quarterly returns schedule (also known as quarterly prepay)
  • If you're not sure of this detail for your account, you can contact the state and them to confirm this detail for you. (We list contact details for the state, here)

What's my First Filing Period?

  • Pending successful verification, the period listed here is the estimated first filing period TaxJar will file.
  • The First Filing Period is based on the date the enrollment form is saved and the payment schedule.

What else should I know?

If you plan to use your New Jersey Premier Business Services (PBS) credentials to file, you must first confirm that your business has been successfully added to your state tax account. This ensures that there will be returns available for AutoFile to file.

To add your business to your NJ PBS account: 

  1. Login to your NJ Premier Business Services account and look for "Add a Business" on the right.       
    • Note: If your PBS account already has a business associated, you may not see this option.
  2. Click "Add a Business" and follow the state's instructions to add your business information to the account.

New Jersey: What is my State Taxpayer ID and PIN?

    NJ Sales Tax Login

    These are the details used to login to your e-file account at the New Jersey Division of Taxation e-file website.

    • The Taxpayer ID number and PIN you provide for AutoFile should be associated with your New Jersey Sales and Use Tax account number. These details should not be associated with other types of tax accounts with the state of New Jersey.

    Your NJ Taxpayer ID Number  = NJ State Taxpayer ID in the New JerseyAutoFile enrollment form.

    • According to the state, this ID is 12 digits and is typically your FEIN followed by a 3 digit suffix and this suffix is typically 000 or 001:

    Your New Jersey tax identification (ID) number has 12 digits. If you have a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) assigned by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), your New Jersey tax ID number is your FEIN followed by a 3 digit suffix. If you do not have a suffix, enter three zeroes. Do not use hyphens, slashes, or other punctuation. (Example: If your FEIN is 12-3456789, enter 123456789000). If you do not have a FEIN, your New Jersey tax ID number is usually the Social Security Number of the primary business owner followed by three zeroes."

    Your NJ PIN = NJ State PIN in the New Jersey AutoFile enrollment form. 

    • If you don't have a PIN, you may use your NJ Premier Business Services (PBS) account, instead. To use this site for AutoFile, you will need:
      • Your myNewJersey Login ID and Password used to access your PBS account
      • Important: Make sure that your business has been successfully added to your account, so that there are tax returns available to file.

Can I use AutoFile if I don't have a PIN?

What else should I know?

    If you plan to use your PBS account to file, confirm that your business has been successfully added to your state tax account, so that there will be returns generated to file.

    Make sure that you have an active sales tax license and that you have the most current login credentials for your account.
