Update to TaxJar's Terms of Service and a new Data Processing Agreement
We're updating our Terms of Service and publishing a new Data Processing Agreement. There are no changes to the TaxJar product.
When do the updated terms apply?
The updated Terms of Service and Data Processing Agreement take effect immediately for new TaxJar users who sign up on or after May 14, 2026. For existing TaxJar users, these will take effect on June 13, 2026.
What’s changing?
Here’s a summary of the notable changes:
- Our terms now reflect TaxJar services that you may access via Stripe. This update clarifies the responsibilities and liabilities of the respective parties, including that Stripe will, in accordance with its own terms, collect all fees for TaxJar services that are bundled with Stripe services. The new Data Processing Agreement is also incorporated by reference.
- We have published an online Data Processing Agreement that includes the following commitments:
- Lawful, Instruction-Based Processing: We commit to processing your personal data according to your instructions and in compliance with data protection and privacy laws. This ensures you maintain complete control over how your PII is handled.
- Proactive Security & Privacy Measures: We implement robust technical and organizational safeguards to protect the integrity and confidentiality of your data. Access is limited to authorized personnel on a "need-to-know" basis.
- Dedicated Compliance Support: We provide the necessary tools and assistance to help you meet your own legal obligations, including responding to Data Subject Requests and conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments. This simplifies your compliance journey and helps protect your customers’ rights.
- Transparency & Rapid Notification: We notify you without undue delay if we become aware of a data incident, as well as other relevant notifiable events.
Do I need to take action to accept the updated terms?
You don’t need to take any action to accept the new terms. By continuing to use TaxJar after June 13, 2026, these documents automatically become part of your agreement with us. This ensures you have the necessary legal protections and compliance documentation in place without any extra paperwork.
What if I don’t want to agree to the updated terms?
If you don't agree to the updated terms, you'll need to stop using TaxJar services and close your TaxJar account before these terms become effective. You can close your account by following these instructions.
Why did I get this notice?
