1.) Login to TaxJar (just trying it out? No worries. There’s a free, no-risk 30-day trial.)
2.) Click “Account” in the top navigation menu
3.) Click “Linked Accounts” on the left-hand menu bar
4.) Click “Connect to WooCommerce”
5.) This will take you to our WooCommerce easy install page
6.) First, enter your WooCommerce store’s URL. This will allow us to quickly and easily guide you through the TaxJar installation process in your WooCommerce dashboard.
7.) Next, choose which TaxJar feature(s) you would like to use with your WooCommerce store.
You can check one or both options. Just looking around? Try both with a free, no-risk 30-day trial of TaxJar.
8.) Tell us whether you already have the TaxJar plugin installed in your WooCommerce store. Don’t worry if you don’t. It’s dead simple to set up and we’ll walk you through it.
9.) Click “Continue to Next Step” at the bottom of the page
Next we’ll walk you through installation depending on how you want to use TaxJar with your WooCommerce store.
Choose your Scenario:
A. You Choose ONLY the “Sales Tax Calculations” option, and you Don’t Have the TaxJar plugin Installed
1.) You’ll be taken to a page that shows you how to automatically or manually install the Sales Tax Automation plugin from TaxJar. This guide will take you through Automatic installation (recommended). (You can watch this video for instructions on how to manually install the plugin. Download the plugin here for manual install. After installing, follow steps 7-11 below.)
2.) To automatically install the plugin, first double check that you’ve entered the correct URL for your WooCommerce store. If it isn’t, you can just hit the “change” option to quickly change it.
3.) Next, click “Open WordPress Admin Panel.”
4.) You’ll be taken to a screen that looks like this. Just click the “install now” button.
5.) Lastly, activate the plugin:
6.) Click “Continue to Next Step” on the TaxJar install page. Your next step is to configure the TaxJar plugin with your WooCommerce store.
7.) Go to the TaxJar settings page in WooCommerce.
8.) Paste your API token into the API token field.
9.) Click “Save Changes”.
10.) Check the “Enable TaxJar” checkbox. This turns on TaxJar sales tax calculations.
11.) Enter your “ship from” zip code and “ship from” city. This is the address from where your products ship.
12.) Click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the WooCommerce settings page then click “Finish Connection” at the bottom of the TaxJar install screen.
13.) That’s it. You’re all set up to let TaxJar take WooCommerce sales tax rates and calculations off your plate!
B. You Choose ONLY the “Sales Tax Calculations” option, and you Already Have the TaxJar Plugin Installed
1.) Your life is much easier. Just follow steps 7-11 in section A, above, and you’re all set.
C. You Choose the “Sales Tax Reporting” Options
(Note: This is with or without also choosing the “Sales Tax Calculations” option.)
1.) Follow steps through 1-10 in section A above. If you already have the TaxJar Sales Tax Automation plugin for WooCommerce installed, you can skip steps 1 and 2.
2.) Check the Enable order downloads to TaxJar checkbox to turn on sales tax reporting.
3.) Click “Save Changes”. And that’s it. You’re all set up to let TaxJar take WooCommerce sales tax rates and calculations off your plate!
