Some Amazon FBA sellers have asked us about cases where states tax shipping and handling separately.
Amazon does not provide the ability to tax shipping and handling differently, nor do they provide us with the amounts of shipping and handling separately.
Because of this, we assume all charges that come through to TaxJar are “shipping” charges and we set shipping taxability accordingly. (For a list of states where shipping is taxed, see this list. Click each state for more specifics about state sales tax and shipping regulations.)
We understand that some sellers may, at times, want to override our default settings and change the shipping taxability setting for a particular state. We are looking into how to do this without compromising the integrity of your data in TaxJar.
